Quinnipiac Women's Cross Country Announces 2014 Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University women's cross country head coach Carolyn Martin has announced the Bobcats' 2014 schedule. Quinnipiac's schedule will consist of six meets leading up to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 31.

"We are excited to start this year, we have a very young team so it's going to be about holding them back," Martin said. "We do not have any seniors on the roster, so it will be exciting to build on a team that will return everyone the following year."

Quinnipiac will open the year at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 30. Last season, women's cross country won the event as the Bobcats placed three runners – Niamh Ashe (East Islip, N.Y.), Tracey Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) and Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) in the top seven.

Quinnipiac follows its season-opener at the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, R.I. In 2013, the women were edged by UConn to finish in second place. After a week off, the Bobcats head to Holmdel Park in Holmdel, N.J. to run in the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20.

The Bobcats travel to Lehigh, Pa. on Oct. 4 to run in the Paul Short Invitational. Last year, the women finished the Gold 6K run in 20th place out of 48 teams, with Ashe posting the fifth-best freshman time as she finished in 35th place.

Saturday, Oct. 11 sees Quinnipiac heading to Franklin Park for the New England Championships. Last season proved successful for Martin's Bobcats as the women finished sixth out of 43 at the annual event. Ashe grabbed All-New England honors after she finished in 11th place out of 283 runners.

The Bobcats wrap-up the regular-season at the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. on Friday, Oct. 24. Last year, Quinnipiac finished seventh out of 15 teams at the event.

Quinnipiac will compete in its second MAAC Championship on Friday, Oct. 31, to be run at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, N.J. Last season, the women's program finished second in the 11-team field, placing five runners in the top 20, highlighted by Ashe's third-place finish, as four different student-athletes garnered all-MAAC honors.
