Jess Soja Honored as MAAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

MAAC Official Release

EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac women's cross country Jess Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) was named the MAAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013. This marks the first such award for Soja and the women's cross country program as they continue their inaugural season in the MAAC.

Soja shot out of the gates strong and finished with a time of 18:32.4 in her first event of the season at the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Race, hosted by Bryant Univ. She posted her fourth career Top-10 finish as she crossed the line in ninth place overall out of 100 total runners. Her finishing time in the 5k event is a significant improvement from her time of 18:49.9 in the 2012 Nassaney Memorial Race.

One of the team's strongest, most consistent runners the past two seasons, Soja picks up her first career weekly Runner of the Week award. An All-Conference performer a year ago in the Northeast Conference, Soja was the top Bobcat finisher on Saturday and helped lift the team to a second place finish at the meet.

The Bobcats hope to continue their strong start to 2013 on Saturday, Sept. 21 in the Iona Meet of Champions.
