NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's cross country team finished ninth among 14 competitors at the Central Connecticut State Mini Meet on Saturday in the pouring rain. The Bobcats were led by freshman Rebecca Morse (West Newbury, Mass.) who placed 44th with a time of 11:16.24 in the 3k event.
"It was a very messy day but the women did a great job," said Quinnipiac women's cross country head coach Carolyn Martin. "They raced tough and all ended their season on a high note."
Just one week away from the Northeast Conference Championship, many of the Bobcat runners were held out for some rest before attempting to claim their eighth consecutive Championship crown. Morse came through for the Quinnipiac contingent on Saturday with her highest finish for the season.
Morse was followed by senior Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) who placed 47th with 11:18.04. Junior Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.) came in next for Quinnipiac with a 55th-place finish as she crossed the line in 11:24.40. Senior Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) was right behind Faust in 58th with 11:26.76. The Bobcats scoring was rounded out by freshmen Kristina Ketchum (Foxborough, Mass.) with 11:34.47 and Abby Waight (Doylestown, Pa.) with 11:41.45.
The Bobcats are now just one week away from the NEC Championship on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bryant University as they look to defend their seven-year reign as conference champs.
