HAMDEN, Conn – The Quinnipiac women's cross country team earned their second sweep of the Northeast Conference Weekly awards as senior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) claimed the NEC Athlete of the Week and freshman Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) took home the NEC Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday, Oct. 2. The second sweep of the weekly awards is the most for the Bobcats in a season since they claimed three in 2010.

The Athlete of the Week is the ninth of White's stellar career to go along with her five Rookie of the Week distinctions. This is also the second Athlete of the Week honor this season for White, who claimed her first after winning the Quinnipiac Invitational on Sep. 15 with a blazing time of 18:11.1 She has been the fastest Bobcat runner in all three of her races this season and continues with her 74th place finish at the 39th annual Lehigh Paul Short Women's Gold 6k Run with a time of 21:50. The senior navigated her way around a big group of over 350 competitors to lead the Bobcats to an 18th place finish out of 40 collegiate teams.

"She raced very tough," said Quinnipiac women's cross country head coach Carolyn Martin. "Even under difficult racing conditions, she came through when the team needed her most and led us to a great finish.

Savage wins her first career NEC Rookie of the Week in just her fourth collegiate race. She adds her name to the list of Bobcat freshman to win the weekly award as fellow teammates Ashley Carle (Jackson, N.J.) and Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.), previously won NEC Rookie of the Week honors on Sep. 5 and Sep. 18, respectively. It marks the first time in Quinnipiac history that three different runners have been named Rookie of the Week and the first time since Sacred Heart in 2005 (Kathleen Henry, Caitlin Manchester, and Jennalee Wright) that an NEC team has accomplished the feat. Savage finished the Lehigh Paul Short Women's Gold 6k Run in 22:33, good for fourth on the team and also represented her highest team-finish in a race this season. She finished between a pair of established Bobcat veterans including four-time NEC Rookie of the Week honoree in junior Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.), who clocked in at 22:31, and junior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) who finished in 22:36.

"I was really impressed with her this past weekend," Martin said. "She did a great job packing up with her teammates and she certainly helped us get on the map on Friday."

The Bobcats cross country program also made some history on Tuesday as the men's team also swept the NEC Athlete and Rookie of the Week honors with senior Rich Klauber (Thomaston, Conn.) and freshman Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vt.). This marked the first time since Sep. 23, 2008 that an NEC team has claimed all four honors in one week when Quinnipiac's Rich Klauber took home the NEC Athlete and Rookie of the Week for the men while the women's Chelsea Bollerman won Athlete of the Week and Morgan Roche claimed Rookie of the Week. The Bobcats have accomplished the feat on three other occasions and are the only NEC team to have ever won all four in the same week.

Quinnipiac is primed and ready for their next meet this Sunday, Oct. 7 at the New England Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. The sub-varsity women's race begins at 12 p.m. while the women's varsity meet starts at 1:30 p.m.
