HOLMDEL, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women’s cross country team won its seventh consecutive Northeast Conference Championship on Saturday morning at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, N.J. The Bobcats took first place, out of 12 teams, with a total of 44 points and were paced by senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.), who finished in fifth place overall in 19:02.70.
“I thought the women really stepped up today and proved to themselves the depth this team has,” said head coach Carolyn Martin. “It was exciting to see them race so well as a pack and work well together as a team.”
Junior Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) finished immediately after Roche in sixth place at 19:10.80, followed by sophomore Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) in seventh place with a time of 19:16.50.
Sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) finished the 5k course in 15th place with a time of 19:33.70, while senior Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) placed 16th in 19:35. Senior Kaitie Kelly (Weymouth, Mass.) rounded out the top 25 runners with a 24th place finish in 19:51.60.
“It was exciting to win again,” said Martin, “but I was even more excited to see some outstanding performances today. It just proved how strong our team is and what we’re capable of.”
