NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's cross country team finished second out of nine teams at the CCSU Mini-Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park. The University of Connecticut women placed first with a score of 50. The Bobcats finished the 3k race ahead of Northeast Conference opponents Central Connecticut State University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
"We did a great job and packed up well," said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. "It was a great tune up for the Northeast Conference Championships and I think the women are ready for next week."
Finishing first for the Bobcats and seventh overall was Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) with a time of 10:28. Finishing second for Quinnipiac and in 10th overall was Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) in 10:30. Kaitlin Kelly (Weymouth, Mass.) finished in 14th overall and third for the Bobcats with a time of 10:35. Following, in 15th overall, was Kelly Newcomb (Toms River, N.J.) in 10:39. The fifth Quinnipiac runner to cross the finish line was Kelly Malloy (Sewell, N.J.). Malloy finished in 17th overall with a time of 10:42.
The women will run at the Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn. at 11:00 a.m.
