HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's cross country team was named one of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams of 2009. The Bobcats posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.40 this past season to earn the distinction. Quinnipiac was one of four teams from the Northeast Conference to make the list of 176 teams nationally, joining, Central Connecticut, Sacred Heart and Monmouth.
"Our women's team is really focused on both athletics and academics," Head Coach Carolyn Martin said, "It is really exciting to work with a team that is full of young women who are dedicated to both aspects of what it takes to be student-athletes."
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
Villanova was named the 2009 Scholar Team of the Year after winning the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region title and Big East crown this past fall. The Scholar Team of the Year distinction goes to the program that earned All-Academic Team honors and placed the highest among the field at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
