HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's cross country freshman Becca White (Natick, Mass.) was named the Road Runner Sports Northeast Conference Rookie and Athlete of the Week. It marks the third time this season that White has been honored as the Rookie of the Week, while also taking home her second Athlete of the Week accolade. She was honored after finishing 35th overall at the Paul Short Invitational's Gold Race at Lehigh University on Friday, Oct. 2.
For the third time in four meets this season, White finished as the top Quinnipiac runner. This time she finished 35th overall in 21:19 to lead the Bobcats at Lehigh. Her time helped the Bobcats to a 16th-place team finish in a field of 40 teams. Her 35th-place showing was more impressive as there were 363 runners in the race, the most in any race the Bobcats have run in this season. White helped Quinnipiac finish ahead of teams from Dartmouth, New Hampshire and UMass.
The Bobcats' performance at Lehigh earned them their highest ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings this season. Quinnipiac is 12th in the Northeast Region after their showing at Lehigh. That is a jump of two spots in the rankings from two weeks ago.
The Bobcats will run again on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m., at the New England Championships. The race will take place on the Franklin Park Course in Boston, Mass.
