Women's Volleyball Falls on the Road to Rider, 3-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Despite nearly equaling Rider in kills for the match, the Quinnipiac women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to the Broncs on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats fell victim to some early set runs for Rider as the Broncs avenged a loss to Quinnipiac from early in the season, 25-19, 25-20, 25-14. Senior Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) notched 16 digs in the match to eclipse the 1400 career dig mark as she now stands at 1,414 in her four years at Quinnipiac. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-22 (2-11 MAAC) while Rider remains a playoff hopeful at 14-10 (5-8 MAAC).

Riker also chipped in three assists, one service ace and one kill to round out her solid afternoon from Alumni Gymnasium. Freshman Jamie Paolucci (Lake Mary, Fla.) finished with a team-high eight kills to go along with two digs, two blocks and a service ace. Paolucci's hot streak continues as no one on the Bobcats has accumulated more kills than her since Oct. 5.  Junior Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) continues to fill in admirably at the setter position with 23 assists and three digs while freshman Cody Michaels (Versailles, Ky.) tallied her second-highest dig total (7) in a match all season.

Rider's 10-1 run to start the first set was the story as Quinnipiac had trouble getting their offense started in the early going. A Paolucci kill combined with freshman Katie Urycki's (Chesterton, Ind.) efforts from the service line helped pull the Bobcats back to within a five point margin at 19-14 and freshman Allison Leigh (Palmer, Alaska) notched a kill to make it 20-16 but that was the closest the Bobcats would get for the remainder of the first. Rider finished off the first set victory, 25-19.

The second set was played out in a completely opposite fashion as it was the Bobcats' turn to seize control early, holding a 12-10 lead through the middle stages of the stanza. Senior Bonnie Conklin (Plano, Texas) was the Bobcats' go-to power throughout the run as she contributed three of her five kills in the beginning of the third but the Broncs used a decisive 7-0 run to take the lead, 17-12. The lead dwindled to as few as four points but not enough to pull Quinnipiac even as they fell in the second, 25-20.

The final set was dominated by Rider early and late as they used a 13-4 run to start the set to create some separation and then an 8-2 run late in the frame to finish the Bobcats off, 25-14.

Quinnipiac will be right back in action tomorrow from Yanitelli Center at Saint Peter's as the Bobcats will look to take down the Peacocks on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
