LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore setter Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) and freshman outside hitter Chandler Thornton (Arlington, Texas) were named to the Bucknell Invitational All-Tournament Team over the weekend as the Bobcats competed against the Bison, Providence, and Fordham. The pair combined for an impressive showing over the three games including the Bobcat's first win of the 2012 season in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Providence on Friday.
Coming into this season with 13 career assists and listed as an outside hitter, Robinson has only recently been moved to the team's primary facilitator position. After four games at setter, Robinson has proven to be one of the team's most dynamic players as she not only continues to rack up kills and stuff blocks but has shown the ability to effectively distribute the ball as well. Robinson had perhaps the most impressive individual performance for the season when she racked up 37 assists, 13 digs, five kills, and four blocks in Quinnipiac's win over Providence. The assist total is the highest by a Bobcat player since the program's all-time assist leader Kayla Lawler had 41 in a five set loss to Central Conn. St. on Oct. 30, 2011. Robinson continued her impressive play with 19 assists, four kills, and two blocks against Fordham on Saturday. She completed the tournament with a game-high 23 assists, three kill, and two service ace game against Bucknell. Her standout numbers for the tournament show her dynamic ability as she compiled 79 assists, 16 digs, 12 kills, seven blocks, and two service aces.
Thornton also showed much improvement over the tournament as she entered the weekend with 19 digs in the team's first six games and finished the Bucknell Invitational with 30 digs in three games. The young outside hitter also posted an impressive double-double with 13 digs and 13 kills to go along with one service ace in the team's thrilling win over the Friars on Friday. She had another nine digs and four kills on Saturday against Fordham and then followed with the team's highest individual service ace total thus far in the season with three against Bucknell. For the tournament, the freshman totaled 21 kills and 30 digs.
