Women's Volleyball Announces 2012 Schedule

2012 Quinnipiac Women's Volleyball Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University Department of Athletics has released the 2012 women's volleyball schedule, a season that consists of 32 matches. In search for its ninth Northeast Conference Tournament appearance, the Bobcats are scheduled for 13 games at Burt Kahn Court. The slate is also complete with four early-season tournaments, including the second annual Quinnipiac/Hartford Invitational in mid-September.

Quinnipiac's challenging schedule begins in New York, where the Bobcats will take on three opponents in the West Point Invitational.  On Friday, Aug. 24, QU squares off against Santa Clara a member of the West Coast Conference, at Gillis Field House on Army's campus. When play resumes the next day, the Bobcats open with the Black Knights at 10 a.m., followed by a showdown with Big 10 member, Indiana, at 3 p.m.

The Bobcats will travel a bit further for their next gig, heading out westward to the Buckeye State. The Akron Invitational features opponents from all over including Southeastern Louisiana, Montana State and Akron University. QU opens the tournament with Montana St. on Friday, Aug. 30 at 5 p.m., and returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Bobcats will take on the hosting Zips at 1 p.m., followed a battle amongst Bobcats with Southeastern Louisiana at 5 p.m.

Quinnipiac then returns to the Nutmeg State for the second annual Quinnipiac/Hartford Invitational. The Bobcats and the Hawks welcome three teams to Connecticut, including the Ivy League's Cornell, the Big East's Seton Hall and the MAAC's Canisius. Competition will open up on Friday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. and run through Saturday evening. The invitational concludes with a showdown with intrastate rival Hartford on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The fourth and final non-conference tournament will take place on Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15 in Lewisburg, Pa. The Bobcats will join Providence, Fordham and the Bison at the Bucknell Invitational. Quinnipiac opens with Providence on Friday evening, before partaking in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Bobcats wrap up the invitational with Fordham at 3 p.m. and Bucknell at 5 p.m.

With tournament play in the rearview mirror, Quinnipiac will embark on a vigorous Northeast Conference schedule. The Bobcats begin NEC competition with two formidable road matches on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23. QU opens with 2008 NEC Tournament contender Fairleigh Dickinson, and then crosses the border into New York to take on 2010 NEC Champion LIU Brooklyn. All conference games will take place at 1 p.m., unless noted differently.

The Bobcats return to campus for a three-game home-stand, set to begin with their home-opener on Saturday, Sept. 29. Quinnipiac welcomes Saint Francis (Pa.) to Burt Kahn on Saturday, followed by Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon. The following weekend, Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7, features a home-and-away set with Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut. The Bobcats host the defending champions, before traveling to New Britain to square off against the Blue Devils.

Quinnipiac remains on the road for its next two matches, traveling to St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday, Oct. 13 and to Bryant University on Wednesday, Oct. 17 for a 7 p.m. tilt. On Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21, the Bobcats begin the backend of their conference schedule with FDU and LIU Brooklyn at Burt Kahn Court. QU then prepares for its trek out to Pennsylvania to take on Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday, Oct. 27 and Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 28. The Bobcats take on the Colonials at 3 p.m.

The squad will wrap up the most challenging part of its schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 30 against Bryant. The 7 p.m. tilt with the Bulldogs concludes a stretch of three games in four days, including the long trip back from Pennsylvania. The Bobcats complete the 2012 regular-season with three matches in November: home against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Sunday, Nov. 4, away at Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 10, and home against Central Connecticut on Sunday, Nov. 11. The final game of the regular-season will serve as Senior Day, hosted by the Quinnipiac Department of Athletics.

The Northeast Conference Tournament will take place on the third weekend in November. The top four teams will complete for the title, beginning with the Semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the highest seed. A champion will be crowned on Sunday afternoon.
