to Open NEC Season
Bobcats Open NEC Schedule at Central Connecticut The Quinnipiac
University women’s volleyball team will face the Central
Connecticut Blue Devils in their first Northeast Conference match
of 2011. Play begins at 1 p.m. at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain,
Conn.
Scouting the Central Connecticut Blue
Devils
Central Connecticut enters the match at 9-5 overall on the season,
with a 1-0 record in NEC play. The Blue Devils defeated Bryant,
3-1, in their first NEC match on Saturday. On Wednesday, Central
Connecticut was victorious in a non-conference match against Holy
Cross, sweeping the Crusaders, 3-0. Junior Emily Cochran leads the
Blue Devils in kills per set at 3.58. Senior Danielle Gasser has
posted a team-leading 10.92 assists per set. Freshman Brittany
Schumacher is the team leader in digs per set at 4.68. Junior
Jennifer Waddill has posted a team-leading and Northeast
Conference-leading 0.51 aces per set so far in 2011.
All-Time Against The Blue Devils
The Bobcats are 1-16 all-time against the Blue Devils, and 0-8 in
New Britain. Quinnipiac was 0-2 against Central Connecticut last
year, falling 3-1 on Nov. 14 in Hamden, and 3-0 on Oct. 23 in New
Britain.

With her next assist, senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) will
reach 3,000 for her career. Lawler has recorded 302 assists so far
in 2011.
Milestone Moments Approaching
Three Bobcats are approaching statistical milestones this season.
Senior Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) is well within striking
distance of both 1,000 kills and digs, while junior Logan Riker
(Bowling Green, Ohio) will likely reach 1,000 digs this
season.
Acing the Test
Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) tallied a career-high seven
service aces in the Bobcats’ match against Navy on Sep. 17
– a match in which the Bobcats had 16 aces as a team. On the
season, Lawler has recorded 21 aces, and posted a 0.50 aces per set
average. Her aces per set average is good for 24th in the nation,
and second in the Northeast Conference.
Welcome to the Show
Freshman Tierra Allen (Sumter, S.C.) recorded a career-high 14
kills in the Bobcats’ win over La Salle on Sep. 9. The next
afternoon, she topped that mark, tallying 15 kills against Navy.
Allen was also in double figures later in the day against Delaware
State with 10 kills.
