Bobcats Travel to Bryant for Midweek Match
The Quinnipiac University women’s volleyball team
travels to the Ocean State for a Wednesday night Northeast
Conference match against the Bryant Bulldogs. Play begins at 7 p.m.
at the Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, R.I.
Scouting the Bryant Bulldogs
Bryant enters the match at 5-11 overall on the season,
with a 0-2 record in NEC play. The Bulldogs dropped a pair of NEC
matches in the Nutmeg State over the weekend, falling to Central
Connecticut, 3-1, on Saturday, and to Sacred Heart, 3-2, on Sunday.
Senior Jazmin Stoner leads the Bulldogs with 2.70 kills per set.
Junior Jadith Lorenzo had posted a team-leading 6.39 assists per
set, and also leads the team with 22 service aces. Junior Macy
Mitravich leads the team with 4.29 digs per set.
All-Time Against The Bulldogs
The Bobcats are 0-6 all-time against Bryant, and 0-3 in
Smithfield, R.I. Quinnipiac was swept in the season series in 2010,
falling 3-2 on Sep. 26 in Smithfield, and 3-1 on Nov. 10 in
Hamden.
Ms. 3000
Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.), Quinnipiac’s
all-time assist leader, recorded her 3,000th career assist in the
first set of the Bobcats’ match at Central Connecticut on
Sep. 25.
Milestone Moments Approaching
Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) is also approaching a
statistical milestone this season. In addition to Lawler’s
3,000 assists, Carey is well within striking distance of both 1,000
kills and digs.
Acing the Test
Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) tallied a
career-high seven service aces in the Bobcats’ match against
Navy on Sep. 17 – a match in which the Bobcats had 16 aces as
a team. On the season, Lawler has recorded 25 aces, and posted a
0.54 aces per set average. Her aces per set average is good for
ninth in the nation, and first in the Northeast
Conference.
Freshman Focus
Tanner Celestin (Norco, Calif./Norco) had a career-high
14 kills against Central Connecticut, while hitting a .205, and
averaging 1.74 kills per set. Celestin had seen limited playing
time to start the year, but has reached double-digits in kills in
two of her last three matches.
House of Payne
Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) had 11 kills with a
team-best .261 hitting percentage against CCSU on Sunday. Payne
also had a career-best seven blocks in the loss.
