HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team welcomed the NEC's second place team, Sacred Heart University, to Burt Kahn Court for a conference affair on Friday evening. The Pioneers collected 38 kills and nine blocks in the match, as SHU claimed a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14 and 25-13) victory in the Bobcats' second to last regular-season home game.

With the loss, the Bobcats dropped to 4-22 on the season and 3-10 in Northeast Conference competition. The Pioneers inched closer to the top slot in the standings, improving to 20-7, 10-2 in the league.

The Bobcats committed 26 errors in the match, 17 more than the visiting Pioneers. In addition, Sacred Heart used a balanced offense that focused on placing its attacks away from sophomore Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.), the conference's top-ranked athlete in digs per set. The Pioneers received six or more kills from five different players, led by a Dianis Mercado, who registered a game-high with nine of them.

The Bobcats were led by two of their senior class members. Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) posted 16 assists, four digs and two kills, while Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) added five kills in the contest. Sophomore Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chimed in with five kills and Wright anchored the back row with 15 digs.

Quinnipiac returns to the hardwood on Sunday, November 6, to take on Fairleigh Dickinson in its final regular-season home game. Prior to the start of the match, QU will honor three seniors for their hard work and dedication to the women's volleyball program. All the action will commence at 2 p.m. on Burt Kahn Court.
