Women's Volleyball Stifles Comeback, Defeats St. Francis (N.Y.), 3-2

The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team won its first Northeast Conference match of the season with a 3-2 victory against St. Francis (N.Y.). The Bobcats won the first two sets,25-15 and 25-16, before the Terriers bounced back with wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-18, and 29-27, respectively. Quinnipiac held off the St. Francis comeback bid with a 16-14 win in the final set. 

In the fifth set, Quinnipiac jumped ahead to a 6-0 lead, and after a back-and-forth battle, emerged victorious with a 16-14 decision. With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 2-14 on the season, and 1-3 in the Northeast Conference. With the loss, the Terriers fall to 1-18 overall, and 0-4 in the NEC. 

Kayla Lawler Honored before the match for her 3000 assists

Freshman Brittanie Robinson (Fresno, Calif.) posted career-highs with 11 kills and 28 digs. Senior Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) recorded 10 kills and 13 digs, while senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) posted 11 digs and a season-high 47 assists.

Junior Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) and sophomore Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) were also in double figures in kills with 13 each. Sophomore Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tied a season-high with 29 digs. The Bobcats recorded 14 blocks in the match.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 2, when the team hosts Long Island in a Northeast Conference match. Play is set to begin at 2 p.m.
