St. Francis (N.Y.) enters the match at 1-17 overall on the season, with a 0-3 record in NEC play. The Terriers last played on Wednesday, Sep. 28, falling in three sets to cross-Brooklyn rival Long Island. Junior Marina Georgieva leads the Terriers with 3.22 kills per set, and has recorded a team-leading 21 service aces. Sophomore Kamalei Clifton has posted a team-leading 4.90 assists per set. Sophomore Feliz Ramirez leads the team with 4.28 digs per set.
All-Time Against the Terriers
The Bobcats are 11-5 all-time against St. Francis (N.Y.), including a 6-1 mark at Burt Kahn Court. Quinnipiac was swept in the season series in 2010, falling 3-2 on Oct. 16 in Brooklyn, and 3-0 on Nov. 13 in Hamden.
Scouting the Long Island Blackbirds
Long Island enters the weekend at 7-10 on the season, and a 2-1 mark in the NEC. The Blackbirds last played on Wednesday, Sep. 28, sweeping cross-Brooklyn rival St. Francis (N.Y.) Sophomore Hanna Gibeau leads the Blackbirds with 3.47 kills per set and 17 service aces. Freshman Vera Djuric is first on the team and second in the Northeast Conference with 10.25 assists per set. Senior Chelsey Stanton has posted a team-leading 3.81 digs per set in 2011.
All-Time Against the Blackbirds
Quinnipiac is 6-11 all-time against Long Island, and 1-5 at Burt Kahn Court. The two teams split the season series in 2010, with both winning their road match. The Bobcats won on Oct.
17 in Brooklyn, 3-1, while the Blackbirds defeated the Bobcats on Oct. 30 in Hamden.
Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.), Quinnipiac's all-time assist leader, recorded her 3,000th career assist in the first set of the Bobcats' match at Central Connecticut on Sep. 25.
Milestone Moments Approaching
Senior Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) is also approaching a statistical milestone this season. In addition to Lawler's 3,000 assists, Carey is well within striking distance of both 1,000 kills and digs.
Acing the Test
Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) tallied a career-high seven service aces in the Bobcats' match against Navy on Sep. 17 – a match in which the Bobcats had 16 aces as a team. On the season, Lawler has recorded 25 aces, and posted a 0.54 aces per set average. Her aces per set average is good for ninth in the nation, and first in the Northeast Conference.
Freshman Krista Bennett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has recorded a new career-high in digs in each of the Bobcats' past two matches. Bennett tallied 17 digs on Sep. 25 at Central Connecticut, and topped that with 18 on Sep. 28 at Bryant. Bennett is second on the Bobcats with 2.76 digs per set.
