HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team fell to Army, 3-1, at Burt Kahn Court on the Mt. Carmel Campus of Quinnipiac University Friday night. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 1-10 on the season while Army improves to 8-3.
"Army was a very solid opponent. While we started off slowly, I was very pleased with the way we settled ourselves and fought in sets 3 and 4. Now we know we can play that hard -- and just need to do it from set one," said Coach Robin Sparks.
Senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) posted a team-high and season-high 14 digs, to go along with 31 assists. Sophomore Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) recorded 12 digs on the night, and freshman Krista Bennett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 11.
Quinnipiac fell behind 2-0 in the match, dropping the first set, 25-12, and the second by a score of 25-17. The Bobcats regrouped and took the third set, 25-23, behind 11 of Lawler's team-leading 31 assists. Army closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
The Bobcats return to action with a pair of matches Saturday, as part of the weekend's Yale/Quinnipiac Tournament. Quinnipiac will travel to Yale for a 1 p.m. match before hosting New Hampshire at Burt Kahn Court at 7 p.m.
