Women's Volleyball Falls To Navy, 3-2
HAMDEN, Conn. – Career days from four Bobcats were not
enough to top Navy, as the Quinnipiac University women's volleyball
team fell to the Midshipmen, 3-2, at Burt Kahn Court on the Mount
Carmel Campus of Quinnipiac University.
Freshman
Tierra
Allen (Sumter, S.C.) posted 15 kills, sophomore
Tracy
Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tallied 29 digs, senior
Kayla
Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) contributed seven service aces, and
freshman
Krista
Bennett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 16 digs – all career
highs. Lawler also recorded 38 assists and a season-high 13
digs.
The Bobcats took the first set, 25-21, recording eight aces in the
process. The Bobcats tallied three aces each from Lawler and junior
Taylor
Payne (Warwick, N.Y.), and two from senior
Kelby Carey
(Surfside, Calif.). Payne tallied seven kills and 10 digs for the
contest.
Navy took the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead in the
match. The Midshipmen took the second set, 25-21, before prevailing
in the third, 25-18.
In the fourth set, Lawler assisted on 17 of the Bobcats' 21
points, as Quinnipiac evened the match with a 25-17 victory, to
force a fifth and deciding set. Allen posted six of her 15 kills in
the frame.
The Midshipmen jumped ahead to an 11-7 lead in the fifth set,
before Quinnipiac scored the next four points to even the score.
Navy jumped ahead 14-13, but was unable to put the Bobcats away.
Quinnipiac evened the score at 14, at which point the Midshipmen
tallied the final two points of the match, taking the fifth set,
16-14.
The Bobcats return to action later this afternoon, as part of the
Quinnipiac/University of Hartford Invitational at Burt Kahn Court.
The Bobcats will host Delaware State at 5 p.m.
