COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) had a team-high eight kills, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team fell to Xavier, 3-0, in the opening day of the Maryland Invitational. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Musketeers improve to 3-1.
After taking the first set, 25-11, the Musketeers closed out the match with 25-13 and 25-14 set victories in the second and third sets, respectively.
Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) had 18 assists for the Bobcats, while Krista Bennett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had a team-high eight digs.
The Bobcats return to Maryland Invitational action Saturday. They'll face the host Terrapins at 12:30 p.m., before facing Virginia Commonwealth at 4:30 p.m.
