HAMDEN, Conn. - Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) established a new career high with 19 kills while hitting .471, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Bryant, 3-1, Wednesday night at the Burt Kahn Court. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 6-22 (4-10 NEC), while the Bulldogs improve to 18-16 (5-10 NEC).
The Bobcats emerged with a 27-25 win in the first set, before the Bulldogs battled back with three consecutive wins, 29-27, 25-14 and 27-25, in the second, third and fourth sets, respectively, to clinch the match.
Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) had a double-double of 52 assists and 14 digs, while Tracey Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) chipped in with 24 digs. Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Amanda Armstrong (Waukesha, Wis.) had 10 kills apiece. Grattan also contributed two blocks. Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) had a strong all-around match, adding eight kills, 12 digs and five service aces.
The Bobcats return to action this weekend, when they play host to St. Francis (N.Y.), Saturday, and Central Connecticut on Sunday. Both matches are slated for 2 p.m. starts at the Burt Kahn Court.
