Volleyball Upends NEC-Leading Robert Morris, 3-1

HAMDEN, Conn. - Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) and Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) each compiled a double-double as the Quinnipiac University volleyball team upended Northeast Conference leader Robert Morris, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. The win pushes the Bobcats' to 3-14 (1-3 NEC), while the Colonials (7-13, 4-1 NEC) fell for the first time in league play. The win over Robert Morris was the first in Quinnipiac program history.

"This win was the biggest one in the history of the program since Quinnipiac transitioned to Division I," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Robin Sparks. "It was nice to see all our hard work in practice pay off. We have been so close the last few matches; the team's perseverance and determination showed through. I thought it was a solid team effort, and I couldn't be prouder of these young women."

The Bobcats took the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-11, respectively, before the Colonials won the third, 25-17. Quinnipiac then put the match away with a 25-19 victory in the fourth.

Carey had a team-high 16 kills to go along with 11 digs, while Lawler distributed 42 assists and compiled 11 digs and four service aces. Stephanie Biediger (Houston, Texas) narrowly missed a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs. Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) compiled 18 digs, while Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.), Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Amanda Armstrong (Waukesha, Wis.) had two blocks each.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, when they play host to Saint Francis (Pa.). First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Burt Kahn Court.
