Volleyball Edged By Bryant, 3-2, In NEC Opener

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) (61 assists), Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) (31 digs) and Olivia Grattan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (17 kills) all set new career highs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was edged by Bryant, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in the Bobcats' Northeast Conference opener at the Chace Athletic Center. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-12 (0-1 NEC), while the Bulldogs improve to 13-6 (1-1 NEC).

The Bobcats won the first two sets in dramatic fashion, using extra points to earn both decisions. Quinnipiac won the first set, 34-32, before taking the second, 27-25. But the Bulldogs won the last three sets, 25-20, 25-19 and 16-14, respectively, to clinch the match.

Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) and Amanda Armstrong (Waukesha, Wis.) had five blocks apiece to lead the Bobcats.

Kaitlyn Klein had a match-high 18 kills for Bryant, while Jadith Lorenzo had a team-high 52 assists. Robyn Gardner had a match-high 36 digs, while Alexandria Clyburn and Emily Kaup had seven blocks apiece for Bryant.

The Bobcats return to NEC action Wednesday, when they travel south on the Merritt Parkway to face Sacred Heart. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn.
