BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Sophomore Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) compiled her sixth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Long Island, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-18 (2-6 NEC), while the Blackbirds improve to 8-12 (5-0 NEC).
Playing with just seven players due to injuries, the Bobcats pushed the Blackbirds to extra points in the first set before falling, 30-28. LIU then breezed through the second and third sets, 25-9 and 25-16, respectively.
Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) had 22 assists, while Erin Overdevest (Bridgeton, N.J.) added 10 digs. Lawler and Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) had two blocks each. Lawler also hit a team-high .556 with six kills.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they return home for a non-conference match against Holy Cross. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Burt Kahn Court.
