HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) compiled her second double-double of the day with 15 kills and 14 digs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by intrastate Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut, 3-0, Saturday night at the Burt Kahn Court. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-13 (1-2 NEC), while the Blue Devils improve to 6-8 (2-0 NEC). Carey totaled 12 kills and 12 digs in a three-set loss at Yale earlier in the day.
Sophomore Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) contributed 36 assists, while freshman Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) had a match-high 19 digs. Sophomore Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) added 11 kills and a team-high four blocks, while freshman Chelsey Pachoud (Riverview, Fla.) added eight kills and 16 digs. Freshman Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) also contributed three blocks.
Central Connecticut was led by Jamie Baumert's 15 kills and eight blocks, while Amanda Bayer contributed a match-high 37 assists. Blaike King compiled a double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs, while Danielle Gasser had a team-high 17 digs. Kaitlin Petrella (13) and Emily Cochran (10) reached double-digit digs, while Sara Delacey contributed five blocks for CCSU.
After CCSU took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-13, the Bobcats battled back to take the third set, 25-23. But the Blue Devils were too much in the fourth, taking the decisive set, 25-18.
The Bobcats conclude weekend action Sunday at 2 p.m., when they welcome non-conference foe Binghamton to the Burt Kahn Court.
