NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Sophomore Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) had 15 kills and freshman Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) tied her career high with 20 digs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated, 3-1, by Central Connecticut Wednesday night at Detrick Gym. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-11 (1-1 NEC), while the Blue Devils improve to 4-7 (1-0 NEC).
Sophomore Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) tallied 36 assists, while fellow second-year player Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) recorded her second double-double of the year with 11 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Chelsey Pachoud (Riverview, Fla.) finished a kill short of a double-double with 16 digs and nine kills. Carey and Naylor finished with two blocks each to lead the Bobcats.
After falling in the first two sets by margins of 25-17 and 25-14, respectively, the Bobcats bounced back to win the third set, 25-21. But just as the Bobcats seemed to be gaining momentum, the Blue Devils came from behind to win the decisive fourth set, 25-22.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they a pair of intrastate foes. Quinnipiac travels to New Haven to take on Yale at 11 a.m., before a 7 p.m. rematch with Central Connecticut. The night cap will be played at the Burt Kahn Court.
