Volleyball Announces 2009-10 Team Awards
Quinnipiac University Volleyball Head Coach Robin Sparks has announced the team's yearly awards, as voted on by team members. Sophomore outside hitter Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) earned Team MVP, while freshman Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) and graduate student Erin Overdevest (Bridgeton, N.J.) were named Most Improved and Most Inspirational, respectively. In addition, sophomore setter Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) has been named team captain for the 2010 season.

Taylor Payne Selected To Play At USA Volleyball High Performance Championships
Quinnipiac University volleyball rising sophomore Taylor Payne (Warwick, N.Y.) has been selected to represent the Iroquois Empire Volleyball Association, a member of USA Volleyball, on their International Junior High Performance Team at this year's USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. The championships are scheduled for July 25-30 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

Volleyball Comes From Behind To Defeat Saint Francis (Pa.), 3-2, On Senior Day
Sophomore Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) tied her career-high with 24 kills while also adding a career-high 21 digs as the Quinnipiac University volleyball team came from behind to defeat Saint Francis (Pa.), 3-2, on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 4-25 (3-13 NEC), while the Red Flash falls to 7-25 (4-12 NEC). The double-double was Carey's 12th of the season, and her first 20-20 performance.

Volleyball Concludes 2009 Season Sunday Against St. Francis (Pa.)
The Quinnipiac University volleyball team concludes the 2009 campaign Sunday, when it plays host to Saint Francis (Pa.) at 1 p.m. The Bobcats look to close the season on a winning note, while the Red Flash plays the third match in a three-day span. Saint Francis fell at FDU Friday night, before playing Saturday afternoon at Sacred Heart.

Freshman Chelsey Pachoud (Riverview, Fla.) tallied a career-high 19 kills, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was outlasted by Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-2, Friday night at Stratis Arena. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-24 (2-12 NEC), while the Knights improve to 6-22 (3-9 NEC).

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team plays host to intrastate Northeast Conference rival Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. Both teams are coming off Friday night losses. The Bobcats fell at Fairleigh Dickinson, while the Pioneers were defeated at Central Connecticut. Sacred Heart defeated Quinnipiac, 3-0, Oct. 29 in Fairfield, Conn.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team plays its final road contest of the season Friday night, when it travels to Hackensack, N.J., to take on Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights defeated the Bobcats in both teams' last match, 3-0, this past Saturday.

Senior Erin Overdevest (Bridgeton, N.J.) tallied a season-high 14 digs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Robert Morris, 3-0, Monday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-23 (2-11 NEC), while the Colonials improve to 11-18 (8-4 NEC).

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team plays a pair of Northeast Conference matches, Sunday and Monday, against Fairleigh Dickinson and Robert Morris at the Burt Kahn Court. Quinnipiac is coming off a 3-0 loss at Sacred Heart Thursday, while Fairleigh Dickinson also lost last time out, a 3-1 defeat at home to St. Francis (N.Y.). Meanwhile, Robert Morris pulled out a five-set victory at Central Connecticut Saturday.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team faces intrastate NEC foe Sacred Heart Thursday in Fairfield following a 10-day idle period. The Bobcats are coming off a pair of losses, Oct. 17 and 18, both at Bryant. Meanwhile, the Pioneers are riding a hot streak, having won six consecutive matches. Sacred Heart has been especially tough at the Pitt Center, where the Pioneers have won all seven matches they've played.

Kristen Corinaldesi and Kaitlyn Vennard Recognized For Research Project
Quinnipiac University student-athletes Kristen Corinaldesi (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Kaitlyn Vennard (Albany, N.Y.) were recognized for their work as part of a research team representing Quinnipiac at the 44th Annual Region I Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, Oct. 22-23 in Cromwell. Corinaldesi, a senior biology major, is a volleyball player, while Vennard is a senior biomedical science major and a member of the women's lacrosse team.

Sophomore Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) compiled her eighth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs to go along with four service aces, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Bryant, 3-0, Saturday night at the Chace Center. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-19 (2-7 NEC), while the Bulldogs improve to 7-16 (2-3 NEC).

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team plays twice at Bryant, Saturday and Sunday. The Bobcats have won two of their last three matches. Both wins have come in five sets - Oct. 9 at St. Francis (N.Y.) and Oct. 13 against Holy Cross. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs earned their first NEC win last time out, a sweep of St. Francis (Pa.). The Bobcats and Bulldogs meet for the first time as members of the same conference since both schools belonged to the Northeast-10 Conference in 1997.

Sophomore Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) compiled her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) contributed four of her 14 kills, hitting .600 in the fifth set, as the Quinnipiac University volleyball team defeated Holy Cross, 3-2, Tuesday night at the Burt Kahn Court. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-18, while the Crusaders fall to 2-18.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team returns home to face Holy Cross in a non-conference match Tuesday night at the Burt Kahn Court. The Bobcats split their NEC matches this past weekend, outlasting St. Francis (N.Y.) in five sets Friday, before being swept by Long Island on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Crusaders also split a pair of matches last week, sweeping Bryant Thursday, before being swept by Army on Saturday.

Sophomore Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) smashed a career-high 24 kills and sophomore Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) added a career-high 53 assists as the Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team outlasted St. Francis (N.Y.) in five sets, 3-2, Friday night at the Genovesi Center. With the win, the Bobcats sweep the season series from the Terriers (1-13, 0-4 NEC) and improve to 2-17 (2-5 NEC).

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 2-18 (2-6 NEC), while the Blackbirds improve to 8-12 (5-0 NEC).

The Bobcats face St. Francis (N.Y.) on Friday night, before a Saturday afternoon match-up with Long Island. The Bobcats swept the Terriers, Sept. 20, while being swept by the Blackbirds on Oct. 1.

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-17 (1-5 NEC), while the Red Flash improves to 4-14 (1-1 NEC). Carey's double-double was her fifth of the season.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team returns to Northeast Conference play with a Thursday evening match at Long Island. The five-time defending Northeast Conference Champion Blackbirds have uncharacteristically stumbled to a 3-12 start. They'll play their NEC opener against the Bobcats, before playing host to the Battle of Brooklyn against city foe St. Francis (N.Y.) at 7:30.

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-15 (1-3 NEC), while the Blackbirds improve to 4-12 (1-0 NEC).

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-13 (1-2 NEC), while the Blue Devils improve to 6-8 (2-0 NEC). Carey totaled 12 kills and 12 digs in a three-set loss at Yale earlier in the day.

The weekend concludes with a 2 p.m. Sunday tilt with Binghamton in Hamden.

Sophomore setter Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) totaled a season-high 40 assists and sophomore outside hitter Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) tallied a career-high 16 kills as the Quinnipiac University volleyball team swept St. Francis (N.Y.), 3-0, in the Bobcats' home and Northeast Conference opener, Sunday afternoon at the Burt Kahn Court. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 1-10 (1-0 NEC), while the Terriers fall to 0-7 (0-1 NEC). The Bobcats took the first set, 25-21, before coming from behind to win the second and third sets, both by a final tally of 25-23.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team will play three matches this weekend. The Bobcats face Morgan State (10 a.m.) and Army (noon) in consecutive Friday matches as part of the West Point Challenge. They'll then open Northeast Conference play Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against St. Francis (N.Y.), in what is also the Bobcats home opener.

With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 0-10, while the Bears improve to 5-10 and the Black Knights move to 9-3.

Freshman Logan Riker (Bowling Green, Ohio) had a career-high 20 digs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Stony Brook, 3-0, in opening round action at the Columbia Invitational, Friday afternoon at Levien Gymnasium. Quinnipiac dropped the second match of the day to Columbia, 3-1. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 0-6, while the Seawolves improve to 2-7 and the Lions to 3-2.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team will play four matches in the Columbia Invitational this weekend in New York City. The Bobcats open play Friday with an 11:30 a.m. match against Stony Brook before a 7 p.m. night cap against host Columbia. Quinnipiac will then play Marist at 2 p.m. on Saturday before concluding the weekend with a 5 p.m. match against Iona. The Bobcats are coming off a 3-0 loss at Dartmouth on Tuesday.

The Bobcats lost their first three matches of the season to Fordham, St. John's and Boston College at this past weekend's St. John's Classic. Meanwhile, Dartmouth won its season opener in a five-set thriller against the University of Rhode Island, Sept. 4.

Freshman Chelsey Pachoud (Riverview, Fla.) reached double-digit digs in both matches, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by St. John's and Boston College, both by a score of 3-0, in the St. John's Classic at Taffner Field House Saturday. The Red Storm defeated the Bobcats, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20, before the Eagles got by the Bobcats, 25-12, 25-20, 25-21. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 0-3, while the Red Storm improved to 2-5 and the Eagles upped their mark to 5-1.

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team opens the 2009 season at the St. John's Classic, Friday night in Queens, N.Y. First on the docket is Fordham at 6 p.m., before Saturday pairings with St. John's (11 a.m.) and Boston College (1 p.m.). Boston College sports the best record of the group at 2-1, while Fordham follows at 1-2 and St. John's is 1-3.

Kelby Carey (Surfside, Calif.) registered a career-high 14 kills, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team fell to Fordham, 3-0, Friday evening in the opening round of the St. John's Classic at Taffner Field House. After Fordham won the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-18, respectively, the Bobcats forced extra points in the third before falling, 26-24. The Rams improve to 2-2 with the win, while the Bobcats fall to 0-1.
