Tournament Take Two

The Quinnipiac University volleyball team plays host to its second home tournament of the season this weekend, when they welcome Coppin State, Hartford and NJIT to the Burt Kahn Court. The Bobcats face NJIT and Coppin State, Saturday, before a Sunday pairing with Hartford. In their prior home tournament, the Bobcats went 1-3 in the season-opening Quinnipiac Invitational.

Scouting The NJIT Highlanders

The Highlanders enter this weekend's matches following three straight wins, two against Northeast Conference opponents (St. Francis (Pa.), Fairleigh Dickinson). Also included was an upset victory against Akron. Renata Pandolfo leads the Highlanders with 99 kills, while Danielle Thompson and Erica Schultz have split time at setter, each compiling 151 assists. Sabrina Baby's 195 digs and Kristy Haeckel's 32 blocks are also team bests.

Scouting The Coppin State Eagles

Coppin State has opened the 2008 season with nine straight losses, most recently falling to Navy, 3-0, on Tuesday. The Eagles have yet to win a set this season. Kanishia Sheppard leads the Eagles with 44 kills, while Lauren Lacey's 95 assists are a team best. Jade Dudley has 45 digs, while Lacey and Salena Weekly are tied for the team lead in blocks with 17 apiece.

Scouting The Hartford Hawks

The Hawks are led by junior middle blocker Erin Macro, whose 127 kills and 31 blocks both lead the team. Sophomore setter Lindsay Ford has 353 of the Hawks 428 assists this season. Junior libero Sarah Boss has the team lead in digs with 164. In the teams' first meeting of the season, the Hawks defeated Quinnipiac, 3-1, Sept. 9, in West Hartford.

On Deck

The Bobcats return to action, Friday, Oct. 3, when they play in the Chicago State Invitational. The Bobcats will square off against Chicago State, Providence and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, before finishing the trip with an Oct. 5 match-up with Illinois-Chicago.
