Volleyball Falls To Columbia and Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Freshman Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) had a team-high 16 kills on the day but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Columbia and Lafayette, both by a 3-0 margin, Saturday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 1-10, while the Lions and Leopards improve to 3-0 and 4-7, respectively.

Freshmen Stephanie Biediger (Houston, Texas) had 16 digs and 15 kills, including 10 each in a double-double performance against Columbia. Biediger also hit a team-best .262. Freshman Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) had a team-high five blocks while fellow first-year player Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) added 43 assists.

The Bobcats forced extra points in each of the first sets Saturday. They fell, 26-24, to Columbia before eventually losing, 27-25, to Lafayette. Both Columbia and Lafayette took the second and third sets comfortably. The Lions finished the match off with a pair of 25-18 set wins, while the Leopards won by 25-16 and 25-14 margins.

Quinnipiac returns to action next weekend when they play in the Brown Invitational. First up is future Northeast Conference opponent Bryant, Friday, before the Bobcats take on Brown and Stony Brook on Saturday.
