BETHLEHEM, Pa. Freshman setter Kayla Lawler (Richmond, Ind.) compiled a double-double of 21 assists and 10 digs, but the Quinnipiac University volleyball team was defeated by Lehigh, 3-0, Friday night at Leeman-Turner Arena. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 1-8, while the Mountain Hawks improve to 3-4.
Freshmen Stephanie Biediger (Houston, Texas) and Alyssa Naylor (San Diego, Calif.) had six kills each, while fellow first-year player Kelby Carey (Surfside Colony, Calif.) added five. Naylor, who hit a team-best .500, also added two blocks.
The first two sets were closely contested, with the first knotted at 23, before the second was tied at 21. But the Mountain Hawks scored the last two points of the first and the final four of the second to take both stanzas (25-23, 25-21). Lehigh then opened a 7-2 advantage in the third, after which the Bobcats couldn't cut the deficit to fewer than three points. The Mountain Hawks won the set, 25-19.
Quinnipiac resumes Lehigh-Lafayette Crosstown Tournament action at Lafayette's Kirby Sports Center tomorrow afternoon. The Bobcats face Columbia at 12:30 p.m. before challenging the host Leopards at 3 p.m.
