LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's outdoor track and field team has much to be excited about in their sixth place finish at the Rider Invitational on Saturday. In the Bobcats' first appearance at the site of the upcoming MAAC Championships, Quinnipiac scored 59 points on Saturday to finish in sixth place behind several quality programs including Rider (1st place), Sacred Heart (2nd) and St. Peter's (4th). Graduate student Becca White (Natick, Mass.) was a steady contributor as she helped combine on the 4x800m relay victory as well as her 2nd place finish in the 1500m.
White had one of her best days of the 2014 season on Saturday as she clocked in at 4:42.31 in the 1500m to land herself in 2nd place overall. After red-shirting in the 2013 outdoor season, White is competing for the first time since the 2012-13 indoor season. The full year off has taken some time to adjust but one of Quinnipiac's best runners in program history is starting to peak at just the right time for the Bobcats.
The remainder of the 1500m group for the Bobcats included sophomore Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) who placed right behind White in 3rd overall (4:46.68) while senior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) came through with a 6th place finish (4:51.65) to give Quinnipiac three runners in the Top-6 overall in the 1500m event.
The 4x800m relay standings was also littered with Bobcats as they claimed the overall victory in the event as well as a 3rd place finish with their second squad. White combined with fellow graduate students Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Christine Donnelly (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) to finish with a time of 9:28.39. Finishing right behind the victorious Bobcat squad was a group of graduate student Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.), senior Val Zielinski (Hackettstown, N.J.) and sophomores Nabadduka and Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) who combined for a time of 9:35.32. Both squads combined for 16 total points out of the Bobcats' team total of 59 on Saturday.
Another unexpected source of success for the Bobcats was in their throwing tandem of sophomore Jennifer Mears (Vernon, Conn.) and freshman Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Conn.). Both became the first two Bobcats to ever place in a throwing event in program history as Mears scored 2nd place (35.24m) while Reid was right behind in 4th place (33.70m). Mears' throw also becomes the new program record in the javelin.
Quinnipiac's remaining triumphs included freshman Bonnie Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and sophomore Nia Baker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placing in 6th and 8th place, respectively, in the 200m. Pisciotta crossed the line in 26.09 seconds while Baker finished with a personal-best time of 26.36 seconds.
Sophomore Kristen Ulrich (Clark, N.J.) took 6th place (59.30 seconds) and three points for the Bobcats in the 400m dash. Sophomore Abby Waight (Doylestown, Pa.) placed for the first time in her career with an 8th place finish in the 5000m with a time of 19:50.37.
Finally, two Bobcats in senior Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.) and freshman Cameron Chaplen (Thomaston, Conn.) both placed in the 3000m steeplechase. Faust crossed the line with a personal best time of 11:40.27 to land in 6th place while Chaplen finished in 7th with a time of 11:53.99.
The Bobcats will next head down to Princeton, N.J. for the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 18-19.
