Yale Springtime Invitational Complete Results

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The sister tandem of Sam and Becca Stabile each had their moments but Sunday belonged to the Quinnipiac women's outdoor track team senior class who were all honored before the start of the Yale Springtime Invitational. Among the Bobcats who received recognition included Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.), Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.), Sam Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.), Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Rebecca Smith (Hamburg, N.J.), Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.).

"We had a great day on the track and honoring our girls," said Quinnipiac women's outdoor track head coach Carolyn Martin. "We had so many personal-bests and season-bests today. The team is really psyched up and ready to run great next weekend at the NEC Championships."

Now with less than a week to prepare for the conference championships at West Long Branch, N.J., the Bobcats have a great deal of momentum heading in with their combined efforts over the weekend at the Penn Relays and Yale Springtime Invitational. Szarkowicz is coming off a personal and school record in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday at Penn while the efforts from multiple girls across the roster certainly leave the team excited for the big weekend ahead.

Sam Stabile got the day started with a program-record in the high jump. Having already tied the previous program-record of 1.55m earlier this season, she reached a step-further than anyone else has in Quinnipiac history as she jumped 1.61m at Yale which is good enough for the best mark ever.

The Stabile family kept the hot streak going as the younger sister, sophomore Becca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) broke her own school record in her signature event, the 400m hurdles. Becca broke the school record eight days ago and bested the mark on Sunday with a 1:02.77 in the event. Her time was good enough for fourth place out of 18 total runners as she has now posted school records in two consecutive meets in the 400m hurdles.

The 1500m event was littered with sensational performances as all five Bobcats competing recorded personal-bests starting with the impressive run from Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.) who finished in second-place with a time of 4:46.01. The second-place result is the highest finish for Humphreys in any event in her career. Also performing well was the other sister tandem of juniors Brianna Faust and Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.). They each ran personal-bests with Brianna coming in fourth with a time of 4:50.57 while Christina was good for 13th place at 5:01.22. Not to be outdone was Kaitlynn Hammerton (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) and Courtney Armstrong (Fair Haven, N.J.) who each clocked in at 5:02.53 and 5:20.04, respectively.

Quinnipiac's distance runners continued their strong day with a nice showing in the 3000m as three runners finished in the Top-10. Junior Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) came through with a solid third-place finish out of 34 runners in the event with a time of 10:09.01. Junior Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) also posted a Top-10, finishing in seventh-place with a time of 10:29.11 and freshman Ashley Carle (Jackson, N.J.) also ran well with a ninth-placing showing and a time of 10:39.52.

Other individual and team standouts included junior Val Zielinski (Hackettstown, N.J.) who earned an 11th place finish in the 800m, the fastest of any Bobcat. Zielinski's 11th-place finish was her highest ever in an 800m event and the time of 2:24.10 was also a personal-best. Sam Stabile backed up her school record high jump performance with a 14th place result in the 200m, crossing the line in 26.26 seconds. Finally, the 4 x 800m relay team of Soja, Morelli, Humphreys and freshman Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) placed second out of four teams with 9:40.57 on Sunday.

The Bobcats will now take the week and prepare for the NEC Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Kessler Field hosted by Monmouth University.
