Brown Invitational Complete Results

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Quinnipiac women's outdoor track team took to Brown Stadium for the Brown University Invitational where junior Christina Faust (Macungie, Pa.) and freshman Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.) shined on Saturday with stellar individual performances. Three more school records fell by the waste side as Samuels bested her program record established earlier this season in both the 200m and 400m while the 4 x 400m relay team also posted another program-best on Saturday.

"We had a good day today," said Quinnipiac women's outdoor track head coach Carolyn Martin. "There are certainly some improvements and faster times we will be looking to go after for next week."

Christina Faust won her first career individual event, taking home first place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:41.31. She finished first in a group of seven competitors and the time was more than 40 seconds faster than her previous personal best in the event.

Samuels also continued to supplant her name in the program record books as she established new records in the 200m and 400m event at Brown. The short-distance specialist already held the program record in each event coming into Saturday but started the day with an impressive second place showing out of 35 runners in the 400m as she crossed the line in 56.37 seconds. The 400m time broke her previous record of 56.87 seconds as the freshman now holds both the indoor and outdoor 400m program records.

Her work for the day wasn't done as she ran a new program record 26.08 seconds in the 200m to break her second record of the day. Just a week after racing her first career 200m at 26.1 seconds in the George Davis Invitational, Samuels barely edged the school record on Saturday as she finished sixth out of 52 competitors in just her second career appearance in a 200m event.

The Bobcats continued to show well in the distance events as the one mile run leaderboard was littered with Quinnipiac competitors starting with junior Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) who placed sixth out of 60 runners with a season-best for any Bobcats with a time of 5:04. Soja was closely followed by several Bobcats including freshmen Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, N.J.) and Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) who crossed the line with times of 5:10.36 (11th) and 5:13.89, respectively.

Other individual standouts on the afternoon for the Bobcats included sophomore Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) led the way for the Bobcats in the 400m hurdles as she finished third out of 13 runners with a time of 1:04.80. Senior Jill Humphreys (Burlington, Mass.) ran the 3000m in 10:29.15 which was good enough for sixth place out of 30 runners and graduate student Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) posted a personal-best 18:23.30 in the 5000m for an eighth place result.

The Bobcats will look to continue their stellar season next weekend as the compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational for a two-day event starting on Friday, April 19 from Weaver Stadium in Princeton, N.J.
