LOWELL, Mass. – The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team competed at the 2012 George Davis Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats' performances were highlighted as junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:42.49.
Senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) came close to setting a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she placed third in 11:06.61. Fellow classmate Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) followed with a seventh-place finish in 11:47.02.
"We saw some pretty good times, especially for the cold weather conditions," said head coach Carolyn Martin. "We're hoping once the weather gets warmer it will make a big difference and we'll see some faster times."
Quinnipiac saw a back-to-back finish in the 5,000-meter run as sophomore Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) placed second in 18:16.75. Placing third in the 3k, was senior Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) with a time of 18:58.71.
Freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) broke the QU record in the 400-meter hurdles, which she previously set a week earlier, as she finished fourth in 1:05.32.
Bobcats' sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) ran in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in ninth place overall in 4:49.73. Junior Kaitlynn Hammerton (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) posted a time of 5:10.47, followed by freshman Samantha Reilly (Setauket, N.Y.) at 5:12.92.
Quinnipiac freshman Nikki Smith (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed 27th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.33. Smith also competed in the 200-meter dash where she finished 25th in 27.55. In the high jump, sophomore Kaitlyn Flynn (New Milford, Conn.) placed 16th.
In the 400-meter dash, Quinnipiac freshman Katy Petrie (Cranston, R.I.) and Flynn recorded top-20 finishes. Petrie placed 15th in 1:04.56, while Flynn finished 20th with an overall time of 1:06.78. The Bobcats were paced by senior Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the 800-meter run as she crossed the finish line in 24th at 2:28.23, followed by sophomore Valerie Zielinski (Hackettstown, N.J.) in 37th with a time of 2:33.
The Bobcats return to action when they compete at the Brown Invitational on Saturday, April 14.
