RICHMOND, Va. – The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team competed in the second day of action at the seventh annual Fred Hardy Invitational at the University of Richmond on Saturday afternoon.
"I think we had a great weekend," said head coach Carolyn Martin. "We had beautiful weather. A lot of girls optimized the great conditions and ran great races. It's still early in the season and we're looking to continue to improve throughout the year."
Senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) led Quinnipiac in the 3000-meter run as she finished fourth overall with a time of 10:05.64. Sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) also competed in the 3K, placing ninth at 10:22.94.
The Bobcats participated in the 400-meter dash where they were paced by freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) who placed 18th in a Quinnipiac record of 59.80. Freshman Katy Petrie (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Flynn (New Milford, Conn.) also recorded back-to-back finishes with times of 1:05.01 and 1:05.50, respectively.
In the 200-meters, Stabile also led QU with a 36th place finish in another QU record of 27.07. Fellow classmate Nikki Smith (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a time of 27.76, while Petrie finished the event in 28.77.
Smith also represented QU in the 100-meter dash where she posted a time of 13.43.
Senior Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) competed in the 800-meter run, where she placed 39th in 2:28.80. Sophomore Val Zielinski (Hackettstown, N.J.) followed as she crossed the finish line at 2:30.41.
Quinnipiac also saw two groups compete in the 4x800-meter relay, the first of which placed fourth out of six teams. This group was represented by Morelli, junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.), and sophomores Brianna Faust and Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) who combined for a time of 9:57.09.
The Bobcats return to action when they run at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, on April 7.
