RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) won the 5,000-meter run as the Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team opened the 2012 season in the first day of the 2012 Fred Hardy Invitational on Friday evening. A total of 20 teams competed at the seventh annual invitational, which was hosted by the University of Richmond.
The Bobcats' performances were highlighted in the 5k as White earned a first-place finish with a time of 17:24.45 in a field of 14 runners. Quinnipiac also saw three runners finish in consecutive positions in the event. Sophomore Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) placed eighth in 18:38.39, followed by senior Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) in 18:42.09 and Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.) in 18:47.87. Sophomore Kelly Malloy (Sewell, N.J.) also ran in the 5k, crossing the finish line in 19:23.08.
QU freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) competed in the 400-meter hurdles where she finished 11th overall amongst 28 runners and second in her heat. Stabile broke a Quinnipiac record as she posted a time of 1:05.43. The rookie also competed in the high jump, posting 1.5 meters.
Several Bobcats participated in the 1,500-meter run, but senior Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) paced QU as she placed ninth overall in 4:44.88. Sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) followed in the 12th slot at 4:48.81, while senior Katherine Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) finished with a time of 4:59.57.
Senior Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) represented the Bobcats in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where she finished fifth out of nine opponents with a time of 11:50.83.
Quinnipiac returns to action in the second day of the Fred Hardy Invitational on Saturday, March 31.
