Providence, R.I. - The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor
track team ran at the Brown Invitational on Saturday, April 16.
Eight colleges competed in the women's events, including Brown,
Rhode Island, Boston University, UMass-Lowell, Bryant, Williams and
Fairfield.
"I think we had a positive attitude and solid times this weekend,"
said Quinnipiac head coach Carolyn Martin. "We have some tune-ups
before the Northeast Conference tournament, but we definitely have
good momentum going into the championship season. Everyone's really
continued to improve and I think we'll continue to see faster
performances."
Senior graduate student Kristen Stevens (Succasunna, N.J.) led
Quinnipiac in the 3,000-meter run as she placed third in 9:58.14
Sophomore Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished in sixth place
with a time of 10:06.
Sophomores Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) and Patty Massa
(Clifton Park, N.Y.) both represented the Bobcats in the
3,000-meter steeplechase. Szarkowicz placed fourth with a time of
11:22.93, while Massa ran an 11:59.50. In addition, Quinnipiac
junior Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) ran the 800-meters in
2:22.95 for a 15th place finish.
Becca White (Natick, Mass.) was the top-Quinnipiac runner in the
one-mile run, finishing in 5:09.87. Amanda Faust (Macungie, Pa.)
ran a 5:16.42 mile, while Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) finished
with a time of 5:17.80. Freshman Janet Dempsey set a new Quinnipiac
record as she cleared 4.63 meters in the long jump.
The Bobcats return to action when they run at the Penn Relays on
Thursday, April 28 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The meet
is scheduled to begin at noon.
