Women's Outdoor Track Concludes Weekend At New England Championships

BOSTON - The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team concluded its weekend at the 2010 New England Championships hosted by Northeastern University on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats ran in two events on the second day of the regional meet, competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 4x800-meter relay.

Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) posted a new personal-best time in the steeplechase, crossing the line in 11:24 in the day's unseeded heat. Her time was good for a third-place finish in the event. Freshman Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) also posted a personal-best time in the event. Running in one of the seeded heats, the first-year Bobcat crossed the line in 11:18.

Quinnipiac's 4x800-meter relay team posted a season-best time of 9:29 on Saturday afternoon. The four Bobcats that made of the team were Jeana Favat (Gibbsboro, N.J.), Becca White (Natick, Mass.), Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) and Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.). Saturday's time bested the Bobcats' mark of 9:39 at this year's Northeast Conference Championships by 10 seconds.

"I thought we ended on a high note," Head Coach Carolyn Martin said. "Nearly the whole team posted season or personal bests to wrap up the season. I am pleased with the entire team's effort, not just today, but throughout the year."

Quinnipiac will send two runners to next weekend's ECAC Championships at Princeton. White and Roche will represent the Bobcats on Friday (White) and Sunday (Roche) in the final weekend of the season.
