NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team ran in its final race of the season before the Northeast Conference Championships with a meet Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational. The day was highlighted for the Bobcats by sophomore Katie Beam's (South Windsor, Conn.) performance in the 1500-meter race. Beam crossed the line with an impressive time of 4:53.54.
"Most of this team ran season bests today," Head Coach Carolyn Martin said. "Everyone has improved over the year and we look forward to going into the conference meet next week. I'm excited to see how we perform against all of the teams in the NEC."
Joining Beam in the 1500 was freshman Patty Massa (Clifton Park, N.Y.). The first-year Bobcats posted a time just off of Beam's, finishing in 4:59.05, also eclipsing the five-minute mark.
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Jeana Favat (Gibbsboro, N.J.) posted a season-best time of 1:08.05. The 3000-meter race saw two Quinnipiac runners record impressive finishes. Freshman Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) was second overall with a time of 10:28.74, while junior Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) was not far behind, crossing the line in 10:43.34.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, May 1, for the first of two days at Mount St. Mary's for the 2010 NEC Championships. The Bobcats' first race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
