WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Quinnipiac University women's outdoor track team began its 2010 season Saturday at the Monmouth Season Opener. The Bobcats' meet was highlighted by freshman Andrea Szarkowicz's (Watertown, Conn.) performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Szarkowicz won the event with a time of 11:43.56.
"I am very pleased with how we ran in our first outdoor meet of the season," Head Coach Carolyn Martin said. "The women ran well in the cold weather today and I look forward to how we continue to improve as the weather gets warmer."
Sophomore Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) finished seventh in a field of nearly 90 runners in the 800 meters. The second-year Bobcat posted a time of 2:23.88 in the race. Donadio also ran in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, finishing 12th in 1:09.91. Junior Jeana Favat (Gibbsboro, N.J.) finished just ahead of Donadio in the event, posting a time of 1:09.43 to finish 11th.
Senior Lindsey Pierret (Morristown, N.J.) was the top Quinnipiac runner in the 1500-meter race, posting a time of 4:57.06. Sophomore Julie Lanning (Victor, N.Y.) also ran in the 1500 meters, finishing just back of Pierret. Lanning crossed the line in 4:58.80.
The Bobcats will return to the track Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Storrs to compete against UConn. Quinnipiac's first race is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
