NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In their first action since returning from winter break, the Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team jolted right back into the fray with a solid showing at the Yale Invitational at the Coxe Cage. The Bobcats fielded competitors in 12 events on Saturday but none more impressive than their showing in the 400m dash led by their high-powered tandem of junior Becca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.) who both landed themselves in the Top 5 overall.
Currently with five combined program records between the two of them, Stabile and Samuels went toe-to-toe in the 400m dash on Saturday with only .34 seconds separating them at the finish line. Stabile crossed the line just ahead of her teammate in 4th place overall with a personal-best time of 57.42 seconds. The mark bested her previous best time in the event of 58.07 seconds established last season. Samuels was not far behind as her time of 57.76 seconds was good enough for 5th place overall. This was the first 400m dash for Quinnipiac's indoor and outdoor record holder in the event.
Quinnipiac's success in the 400m continued on Saturday as their 4 x 400m relay team of Samuels, Stabile, sophomore Kristen Ulrich (Clark, N.J.) and freshman Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished in 2nd place with a time of 3:55.32. The powerful tandem of Samuels and Stabile combined with two more underclassmen in Ulrich and Reid to put together the second-best time in the event in program history.
Rounding out a successful day for Quinnipiac was senior Amanda Faust who chimed in with a 5th place result out of 33 competitors in the 3000m run. Amanda's time of 10:21.21 helped lift her to the Bobcats' fourth Top 5 finisher overall for the meet. Her twin sister Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.) put forth an impressive 12th place out 47 individuals in the one mile run with a time of 5:16.37.
Finally, the fifth Top 5 result for the Bobcats came in the 4 x 800m relay as the team of junior Katy Petrie (Cranston, R.I.), sophomores Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) and Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) as well as freshman Emma Johnson (Metuchen, N.J.) finished in 4th place out of nine teams with a time of 9:39.17.
The Bobcats will next take to the track on Friday, January 17 at the Great Dane Classic held at The Armory in New York, N.Y.
