ALBANY, N.Y. – Several individual efforts guided the Quinnipiac women's indoor track team to a 14th place finish at the Great Dane Classic from the University of Albany on Friday night. Racing in a field with several standout institutions, Quinnipiac's 12 points on the evening was good for the 14th best score while the winner of the event was UConn with a team score of 110.50.
"We're moving in the right direction," said Quinnipiac women's indoor track head coach Carolyn Martin. "I'm excited a few girls bested their personal records in some events and I'm hoping the momentum from this weekend will carry us into next week at Boston University. The BU track is extremely fast and we hope that our girls will us this week to prepare and do their best next week."
Perhaps the most inspired effort of the evening was the performance of junior Brianna Faust (Macungie, Pa.). Racing in the 3000m alongside several of the Bobcat's top runners from the cross country season, Brianna clocked a time of 10:13.12, besting all six of the other Bobcat runners and good enough for a 10th place finish overall in the event. Starting with Brianna, the Bobcats placed finished runners in the next three consecutive positions with junior Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.), senior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) and graduate student Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) all coming in 11th-13th place in the 3000m.
Among the other individual highlights from the Great Dane Classic, senior Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) ran a 2:19.42 in the 800m which fell just short of the top 10 finishers as she crossed the line in 14th position.
Sophomore Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) and freshman Kristen Ulrich (Clark, N.J.) each chimed in with a 10th and 14th place finish, respectively, in the 400m event. Stabile posted a time of 58.07 seconds while Ulrich posted 58.74 seconds in the finals of the same event.
Freshman Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Mass.) led the Bobcats in the one mile run as she came through with a time of 5:14.88, placing her in 11th position. Finally, graduate student Martha Santandreu (Hamburg, N.Y.) finished third in the 5000m with a time of 18:45.50.
The Quinnipiac distance medley team also came through on Friday with an impressive fourth place showing as the team of White, freshmen Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Conn.) and Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Conn.) and senior Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) combined for a time of 12:18.11 in the four-part event, less than 13 seconds behind the first place finisher in Rutgers.
The Bobcats will now turn their attention to the Terrier Invite between Jan. 25-26 for the two day meet.
