BRONX, N.Y. – Junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) led the Quinnipiac University women's indoor track team at the 2011 Fordham Christmas Classic with a first-place finish in the one-mile run. The Bobcats competed against student-athletes from Fordham, Long Island, St. John's, St. Francis, Monroe and Queensborough at Lombardi Fieldhouse on Friday evening.
White won the one mile with a time of 5:05.8, followed by junior Andrea Szarkowicz (Watertown, Conn.) who placed second out of 16 total runners in 5:21.8.
The Bobcats were represented by seniors Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the 1,000-meter run. Roche placed third in 3:05.7 while Morelli finished in sixth place in 3:07.7.
Quinnipiac sophomore Kaitlin Flynn (New Milford, Conn.) placed second in the high jump as she posted 1.45 meters. Senior Amanda Duggan (Waldwick, N.J.) finished second in the triple jump and fifth in the triple jump with performances of 4.47 meters and 9.33 meters, respectively.
Freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) paced the Bobcats in the 500-meter run as she crossed the finish line in third place overall at 1:19.5.
"It was great that we were able to fit this meet into our schedule," said head coach Carolyn Martin. "We had some great performances and I was happy to see some of the girls get some hard work in before they go home for their holiday break."
The Bobcats return to action when they compete at the Yale Collegiate Invitational on Jan. 14 at 12 p.m. at Coxe Cage in New Haven, Conn.
