Women's Indoor Track Runs At First Day Of New England Championships

BOSTON - The Quinnipiac University women's indoor track team ran at the first day of the New England Championships held at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center Friday afternoon. Three other Northeast Conference schools ran at the non-scoring meet. Sacred Heart, Bryant and Central Connecticut all ran at the annual meet with the Bobcats.

"I could not be happier with today's results," Head Coach Carolyn Martin said. "We are peaking at the right part of the season. Days like today make me really excited to see what we can do in the outdoor season."

Juniors Nicole Payne (Rye Brook, N.Y.) and Jeana Favat (Gibbsboro, N.J.) posted season-best times in the 500-meter race. Favat crossed the finish line just ahead of Payne with a personal-best time of 1:20.67. Payne's time of 1:22.61 was her best of the season in the event.

Freshman Christine Cristobal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was the first Quinnipiac runner to finish in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:20.43 was twelve-hundredths of a second faster than teammate sophomore Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.). Cristobal's time was a season best in the event, while Donadio ran a all-time personal best in the 800.

The Bobcats' Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team finished eighth overall a week after winning the event at the NEC Championships. Sophomores Rachel Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.), Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) along with Favat combined to run a 12:17.63 total time. Roche anchored the mile, running the leg in 5:01.

The Bobcats will return to action tomorrow morning at the second day of the New England Championships. The first scheduled event for Quinnipiac begins at 11 a.m.
