HANOVER, N.H. - The Quinnipiac University women's indoor track team ran at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic Saturday afternoon at Leverone Field House. Freshman Becca White (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Morgan Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished first and second, respectively, in the mile race with White edging out Roche by eight hundredths of a second for the top spot. White crossed the line in 5:04.82 for first place, while Roche was out-stepped at the end by her teammate, finishing in 5:04.90.
"We have great momentum going into the Northeast Conference Championships," head coach Carolyn Martin said. "The girls are starting to really run to their potential and I am excited with how that will play out in the coming weeks."
In the 400-meter race, junior Nicole Payne (Rye Brook, N.Y.) finished tenth overall with a time of 1:03.33. Three spots back was junior Jeana Favat (Gibbsboro, N.J.), crossing the finish line in 1:03.72. Payne's time in the event was a season best, while Favat posted a career-best time in the race as well.
Sophomore Hannah Donadio (Killingworth, Conn.) posted a 1:21.98 time in the 500-meter race. Sophomore Katie Beam (South Windsor, Conn.) finished fifth in the 3000-meter race. Her time of 10:30.89 was two seconds better than the sixth-place runner and 11 seconds better than the runner finishing in seventh place. Rounding out the day's strong Quinnipiac showings was the 4x800 relay team. The four runners combined to post a season-best time of 9:40.70 Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats will enjoy a two-week hiatus to prepare for the 2010 NEC Championships beginning Saturday, Feb. 20 and continuing through Sunday, Feb. 21. As usual, the conference meet will be held in Landover, Md., as Mount St. Mary's will host the event again.
