HAMDEN, Conn. – With the departure of just one senior in 2014, the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team has just one spot to fill on next year's roster. Quinnipiac head coach Mike Quitko announced that Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Fla.) will occupy that position and has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Bobcats in September.
A transfer with one year of collegiate experience under her belt, Rencheli comes to Quinnipiac from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where she competed as a freshman for the Rams. VCU coasted through the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament en route to its 14th NCAA Tournament appearance this past season - posting a 12-10 overall record. Rencheli chipped in at No. 7 singles and No. 3 doubles for the squad, picking up a win at No. 3 doubles over Fordham in the A-10 Quarterfinals.
Prior to VCU, Rencheli had constructed a fabulous tennis resume which became appealing to several collegiate coaches. A native of Chisinau, Moldova, Rencheli possesses the peculiarity of having both international and domestic tennis experience. Filled with multiple victories in level 6 and 7 tournaments, Rencheli was Champion of Moldova in G12 and a finalist in Tennis Europe Doubles at Riga Latvia. Since coming to America six years ago, Rencheli has multiple appearances in national, regional and state tournaments, which include several strong showings.
A three-star recruit on TennisRecruiting.net, Rencheli will seek a degree in health sciences while at Quinnipiac. She graduated from Brickhouse Academy in 2013 and currently resides in Sarasota, Fla. She is the daughter of Samui and Svetlana and has a 12-year old sister, Abigail.
Rencheli joins a talented Bobcat roster and a team coming off of an NCAA Tournament appearance. Quinnipiac completed a perfect season in MAAC regular-season play, and then advanced to the national postseason with back-to-back wins in the MAAC Championships.
