Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Hartford in Non-Conference Action, 7-0

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team collected its fourth straight win in convincing fashion on Friday afternoon, as the Bobcats claimed their fourth sweep of the season in a 7-0 win over Hartford at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Quinnipiac inched closer to the .500 mark, improving to 8-10 overall on the season. The Bobcats have outscored their opponents by a count of 25-3 in their last four matches, two of those wins coming over conference teams. The Hawks fell to 1-9 with the loss.
Quinnipiac's final tune-up match before competing in its last week of regular-season play featured a dominant performance at doubles. For the sixth straight match and 13th time this season, the Bobcats picked up the first point of the contest by way of the doubles tally. Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) remained perfect (12-0) with a 8-0 swept at No. 2, which was followed by an 8-1 decision at No. 3 doubles where Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) defeated Hannah Goldman and Felicia Demarco. Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 1 – the 53rd doubles win of their career.
After that, the race to finish before the rain began. Chupa collected Quinnipiac's second point and the 86th win of her career at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1), which was followed closely by Oliphant who completed a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. The deciding marker came at No. 1 where Raynor topped Ashley Harel, 6-2, 6-2, to earn the Bobcats' fourth point of the match. It was the 112th win of her career.
The remaining three matches finished up shortly after, beginning with a 6-3, 6-0 win for Launie at No. 5 singles. It was the 79th of her career. Young finished off a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2, and Daniella Reyes (Burr Ridge, Ill.) won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 6 to pick up her 10th career triumph.

Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, April 12 with showdown that features two of the MAAC's better teams. Quinnipiac welcomes Niagara to Hamden for a 10 a.m. tilt against the Purple Eagles at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Bobcats will honor their lone senior class member in Mary Chupa prior to the match at 9:30 a.m.
