Oliphant’s Win Not Enough In 6-1 Loss at Seton Hall

NEWARK, N.J. – Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) collected her 10th singles win of the season on Sunday night, but it was not enough in a 6-1 loss for the Quinnipiac University women's tennis team. BIG EAST foe Seton Hall was firing on all cylinders in a five-point victory at the NJIT Indoor Tennis Courts in Newark, N.J.

Three Quinnipiac players – Oliphant, Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) – each came away with a win on the afternoon. Oliphant notched the lone win at singles with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Madison Shoemaker at No. 5. She has won four out of her last six matches at singles.

In doubles, Raynor and Dassa continued to roll and picked up career win No. 47 when playing together. The junior pairing knocked off Shoemaker and Julia Keenan at No. 2 doubles. It was their fifth straight win together and improved their mark to 6-2 this season.

However, Seton Hall had several fine performances to pull away for the victory. The Pirates won 8-6 at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, and then earned victories at Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 singles to seal the win. Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) took the first set at No. 4 before surrendering in back-to-back frames for the loss. Dassa also forced a third set, but was forced to retire before completion.

Quinnipiac fell to 3-9 on the year, but still owns a 2-0 mark in league competition. Seton Hall improved to 10-5 this year.
