HAMDEN, Conn. – In a match that featured a rematch of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championship, it was the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson who came out on top with a 4-3 victory over the Bobcats at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Quinnipiac snapped its unbeaten streak of two straight and fell to 7-6 overall on the season.
Quinnipiac extended its winning streak in doubles to five consecutive games, taking the first point and an early 1-0 lead. Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated Anna Rapoport and Nicole Chis, 8-6, at No. 1; and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) topped Egzona Morina and Celine Maier, 8-5, at No. 2.
Entering today's match, each team had won three times (3-3) when facing each other over the last five seasons. As expected, four out of the afternoon's six segments needed a third set to determine the winner. All square at 3-3, the match came down to No. 5 singles where Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Dina Guzairova played a third set to settle the final outcome. In a very evenly matched quarrel, Guzairova took the final set, 6-1, granting the Knights the road victory.
In the earlier matches, Raynor defeated Morina, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 and Viebrock battled back after a first set loss to beat Chis, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3.

With the win, Fairleigh Dickinson improved to 5-5 on the season, but more importantly, moved to 4-0 in NEC competition.
