Women’s Tennis Sweeps Bryant, 7-0; Bobcats Improve to 2-0 in NEC Play

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Quinnipiac University women's tennis team remained perfect in conference play on Sunday afternoon, as the Bobcats defeated NEC foe Bryant University, 7-0, at the Bryant Tennis Complex in Smithfield, R.I. Quinnipiac, who climbed back over the .500 mark (6-5) with the triumph, also snatched career win No. 494 for head coach Mike Quitko.

Quinnipiac has won close to 60 percent of its doubles matches this season, and Sunday proved no different than the rest. The Bobcats claimed all three quarrels in commanding fashion, which included a 40th career victory when paired together for Rachel Cantor (Short Hills, N.J.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) at No. 1. Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) followed with a convincing win over Lucy and Rosie Bird, 8-2, at No. 2, and Mary Chupa (Bradenton, Fla.) and Ariana Launie (Milton, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3.

The Bobcats garnered similar success in singles play, only dropping one set to the Bulldogs. Cantor earned her 118th career victory with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 1; Raynor topped Marcela Brandao, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2; Viebrock earned her 128th career victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3; Dassa knocked off Devlin-Ann Ammendola, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4; Chupa defeated Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5; and Launie made it six straight with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at No. 6.

The Bobcats return to action on Thursday, March 28th with an intrastate showdown against Fairfield. Quinnipiac heads down Interstate-95 to the Fairfield Tennis Courts with first serve set for 3 p.m.
