HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's and women's tennis teams joined the United States Tennis Association Connecticut (USTA-CT) in hosting 'Serving Up For Sandy Hook,' an afternoon of tennis, fun and games at Middlebury Racquet Club on Sunday afternoon. All proceeds raised from this event went directly to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund through the United Way of Western Connecticut.
"We were thrilled to be part of such a wonderful day of tennis," said head coach Mike Quitko. "Amy Read and the USTA put together a fantastic event in which my players and children from the Newtown area really enjoyed. From the number of smiles I saw on the faces of the children, I'd say the day was a great success."
The event offered fun tennis games for children and interaction with professional and collegiate players. Among many others, kids chose from cardio tennis, red, orange and green ball courts, a "carnival" for kids, pro-am points and beach tennis.
"The day was exactly what we were looking for," said Middlebury Racquet Club Professional Amy Read, who played a very large role in making the event happen. "We were looking to reach out into the community to get everyone in here, having fun, meeting new people, playing tennis, having fun, and we did just that. We can't thank Quinnipiac enough for coming out and how tremendous they are with the kids."
